There will be a bilingual Spanish/English artist talk with a special guest speaker on labor history on Wednesday, May 23th at 7PM. Free. All are welcome.
Fulgencio explains:
“The theme of the three-dimensional pieces will focus
on the lives of immigrant workers- their journeys, families,
innate beauty and struggles. I will use images that explore identity, such as masks and human figures. The works will
consist of three to four feet tall sculptures in wood, some with carved area, some burnished, and all ultimately painted in my signature style.
International Workers’ Day, an important day around the
world, is not widely celebrated in Seattle.
By producing an exhibit and event specifically celebrating immigrant workers I hope to expand our knowledge
and challenge the negative rhetoric.
As an immigrant from Oaxaca, Mexico,
International Workers’ Day is of special significance.
A successful project will mean that hundreds of community members of diverse backgrounds attend the exhibit,
tour and artist talk, all the while reflecting on the beauty, struggles, and contributions of immigrant workers like me.”
